Vivek reveals the secret of being the owner of a thousand crores of rupees

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi believes that wealth is more valuable than money. And long-term commitment is more permanent in life than short-term profit. In an interview given to NDTV Profit on Saturday, he said, "I realized very quickly that I am more interested in wealth than money. I always ask entrepreneurs a question - do you want to make money or build wealth?" If someone says, "I want to make money," I send them away. And if they say, "I want to build wealth," then I say - let's think about partnerships. Because, I believe - profit is for a quarter, but purpose is for a lifetime." 

Vivek Oberoi, son of famous actor Suresh Oberoi, is now worth around Rs 1,200 crore. However, his entrepreneurial journey began in his teens. He says, "I was 15-16 years old, studying at Mayo College in Rajasthan. My father used to give me Rs 500 a month as a handout. It seemed like a lot of money at that time. But in the first week, I went on a date and spent all the money! Then my father said, 'You have made your own budget, now you have to manage it yourself.' That's when I understood the value of money." 

This is where Vivek's entrepreneurial journey begins. He gets the idea for a product from his classmates' needs—'Care Bear Arc Bears'. He designs the toys himself, contacts the factory, and creates a concept paper. The result? A huge success. 

"In a month when I used to earn Rs 500, I earned Rs 21-22 thousand in one day! That's when I realized that I could make money and I started doing that. Then I wanted to know how to invest the money and make it grow even more," says Vivek. 

While studying economics, he wanted to put the concepts in his textbooks into practice. He started working with a local businessman, Mr. Sada, where profits and losses were shared. He calls it the Dolphin version of business—cooperative, not competitive. “If there was less profit in one month, it could be made up for in the next month. That’s how it started,” says Vivek. 

Vivek Oberoi is an actor who has appeared in popular films like 'Masti', 'Omkara', 'Krrish 3' and 'Grand Masti'. He married Priyanka Alva Oberoi in 2010. They have two children. According to Vivek, acting has made him famous, but business has taught him to find purpose in life. In this regard, the actor said, 'I now know that profits come and go, but having the right purpose teaches you to survive in life.'
